About

Barry Community Garden

We are a community garden project in Gibbonsdown. We are working to build a strong community through the involvement and participation of local residents, and to enhance an area of land in the heart of the Gibbonsdown area of Barry.

We work in partnership with local schools and organisations – Communities for Work, Local Council, Llamau, Vale Vulnerable Families, Glamorgan Voluntary Services, Pave the Way, Amy Evans and Green Links.

We provide opportunities to learn about growing fruit and veg, horticulture, wildlife and conservation. We have a wide range of facilities at the garden including poly-tunnels, a summerhouse, compost toilet, wildlife pond and wildflower meadow and fruit and veg growing areas.

Our Mission

To enable local people to be outdoors and experience the sensory impact that this brings. To participate in health and well-being activities to improve the land and make best use of open green space.

To enable people to socialise with each other or to take time for themselves in an environment that is beneficial to their mental wellbeing.

Through hands-on education and mentoring children and adults learn gardening and partake in the planting, growing and distribution of produce. To be involved in training opportunities to enhance their employment prospects.
